SFN reflections

It was an amazing opportunity that provided so many opportunities! The conference deeply informed me about my interests and passions for possible future careers and topics I am most interested in researching and learning more about moving forwards. It also provided opportunities that developed crucial skills like experimental design, soliciting letters of recommendation, and allowed me to meet professors and graduate schools to form networks and inform me on possibilities for my future!

SfN was an experience of a lifetime to be completely honest, and I am so grateful of being given the opportunity to visit it during my First year at UA. I believe I gained so much knowledge and learned about the different ways I could engage in this research field in the near future. I think that now I have a clearer view of what my academic and professional career could look like, knowing that what initially interested me became even more appealing after listening to lectures, symposiums, nano symposiums and visiting different posters about Alzheimer’s disease research.

Being in an environment like SfN really solidified my plan to attend grad school, I think. The different lectures, symposiums, and posters were amazing and informative, and they demonstrated the way that current grad students are pushing the different frontiers of neuroscience. The grad school fair, then, also allowed me to talk to different grad programs to get an idea of where i can one day pursue my own research like that.

SfN was an incredible conference that I still can’t believe I got to attend as an undergrad. It was a great place to learn and appreciate what the neuroscience community is really doing daily, see some crazy innovative tools and talk about my own research with others. Thank you NSCSAS and I hope you can bring others on this type of trip again it is well worth it.

-Anna Parker

It was so much fun experiencing amazing research in a variety of neuroscience fields and around the world. There were great networking opportunities. I really enjoyed the Grad School Fair and felt like it had helped me with the application process more.
